Back in the saddle again

I forgot entirely how theraputic driving my Z is. After almost 2 years off the road, I've put almost 1500 miles on it in the past month that it's been roadworthy again. In spite of the beautiful weather we've been having here in Washington state recently, I've been rather depressed lately. I'm not sure why, and I'm not sure what to do about it. However, I decided to go out for a drive tonight.

The temperature was in the mid 70s and it was about an hour before sunset, perfect weather for a cruise with the tops off. I flipped through my CD folder and settled on a compilation of 'Rush' that I'd burned some time ago. I had no set route in mind and on retrospection should have made another run down the new road (Issaquah Fall City Rd.) that I'd discovered this past weekend. As it was, I ended up just cruising. Well, as much as one can cruise in a Z. There were a couple of runs up through the first few gears on the straights, and I may have surprised a few fellow motorists by using the roundabout a few miles down the road as a sort of skidpad test. All in all though, I decided to use the time to relax.

I don't know what it is about the Z. I enjoy driving my Audi as well, but there's just no emotional connection like there is with the Z. Maybe it has something to do with how long I've owned each (6 years for the Z, 2 for the Audi), or maybe it's something more. I've talked to other owners of older Z's, and many of them feel the same way. There's something about these cars. It's absolutely impossible to explain to someone who has never owned one. Just today on the way back from lunch a friend asked, when I was going on about another 86 turbo I'd spied not far away for $1000, if I was going to broaden my project car plans to include something other than Z31's (the chassis code for the first-generation 300ZX, for you non car-savvy readers). I thought for a moment, and replied that i wasn't sure, but that I would likely end up with another (or many more) Z in my collection sometime down the road.

To close this post out, for anyone who is actually still reading... you'll most likely notice things have been rather dead around here for a while. Well, it's a confluence of factors that have conspired to keep my away from my blog. First and foremost: I'm a lazy bastard. With that out of the way, it's summer, and I've been enjoying the brief period of time that we get here in Washington state without water falling from the sky. I'll try to take some time over the next few weeks to update everyone (anyone? does anyone actually read this? Bueller?) on what's been going on in my life, with my new house, the Z, etc. For now, however, bed looks like a good place for me to be heading.
